Why we built Orbie without a screen, a light or a sound

Most nursery gadgets add something to the room, a glow, a chime, a screen. When we designed Orbie by Stellar Baby, we did the opposite. We took those things away on purpose. Here's why.

The three things Orbie deliberately doesn't have

No screen, no light, no sound. Not because they were hard to add, but because we didn't want to add anything to the space your babe sleeps in. The job is to read the environment, not change it.

Why no light in the sleep environment

A dark sleep space is a calm one. Adding a glow, however small, adds something that wasn't there and can be distracting for little babes. So Orbie stays dark. No night light I hear you ask? Nope. The best place for a night light (preferably a red light) is not close to your little babe where Orbie would live, it's where you're reading to, feeding or changing your babe. Placement matters.

Why no screen

The information lives in the app, in your hand, not on the device. You shouldn't have to be in the sleep space to know what's going on in it.

Why no sound

While white noise can be a wonderful sleep aid, Raising Children's Network recommends that it be kept well away from your babe to protect their hearing. This doesn't match up with where you want to be measuring temperature and humidity.

We don't do noisy alerts, either. Alerts belong on your phone, quiet and calm. Not on Orbie disrupting your little babe.

What we put the effort into instead

All of that restraint left room to focus on what matters: reading temperature and humidity accurately at your babe's level, and turning it into dressing guidance you can actually use. Orbie is designed and made by our team, deliberately, from the ground up.

Common questions

Does Orbie have a screen?

No. The information lives in the app, not on the device, so there's nothing glowing in your babe's sleep environment.

Is Orbie a nightlight?

No. Orbie deliberately has no light. The idea is to add nothing to the sleep space, only to read it.

Is Orbie a rebadged generic sensor?

No. Orbie by Stellar Baby is a custom-designed product, built specifically to read a babe's environment and turn it into guidance.
