Then Came Ollie

Our first son was born in June 2023. He was extraordinary. He lived for nineteen days, and we never got to bring him home.

There are things you can't put into words. Ollie is one of them. What we can tell you is that losing him didn't just break us. It also, quietly and over time, gave us something. A clarity. A question we couldn't stop asking: what are we actually here to do?

Stellar Baby and our second son Max came into being on the same weekend. We said it out loud, and something clicked. We think Ollie was already pointing us in the right direction.

The name isn't accidental.

Stellar. Starchild. Guided by the stars. That's him. That's all of it.

While Shell was pregnant with Ollie, the ED nurse in her went looking for answers. We learned that temperature really matters for a baby's environment. Not in the scary way people assume. In a fixable way. The sweet spot for a baby's room is 20 to 22 degrees. Humidity matters too. Most parents have no idea. And most parents have absolutely no easy way to know.

What existed to help was white, clinical, and built for a shelf. Or made to wear on bub directly. Nothing truly portable. Nothing that gave you the information you actually needed in a way you could actually use. Nothing built for the way real families live.
